WHY ORTHODONTICS

For most people, achieving a healthy, beautiful smile is the reason for receiving orthodontic care. If the look and arrangement of teeth do not particularly make you happy and you’re self-conscious about your smile, correcting your concerns with braces will greatly improve the way you look and feel.

Improving the arrangement and positions of your teeth with braces will make your teeth easier to clean and hence less prone to cavities and gum problems. Better positioning of your teeth will also make them less prone to external and internal injuries. Good set of teeth makes sure that you have good chewing ability, healthy jaw joint function and balanced facial musculature.
When your braces treatment is done, you will have the smile you’ve always dreamt of and the confidence to show it off. We also want you to feel comfortable and confident throughout your entire orthodontic experience, and our practice is dedicated to making sure that you receive the quality care you deserve.

HOW ORTHODONTIC TREATMENT WORKS

Orthodontic appliances are made of metal, ceramic or plastic. By placing a constant, gentle force in a carefully controlled direction, braces slowly move teeth to the proper position.

Today the braces are more comfortable, effective and faster. They are programmed to deliver optimum orthodontic forces in the right direction so that the teeth achieve their most correct position in the least amount of time. You can now choose clear or metal brackets or even invisible / hidden braces which do not show at all. Wires are far less noticeable, and the latest materials are designed to move teeth faster with more comfort. Even though orthodontic treatment is best done between the ages 10 and 13 years, today, any age is a great age to wear braces!

DURATION OF TREATMENT

Orthodontic treatment time varies and can last between one and three years, depending on several factors including age, treatment method, and how minor or severe your case is. A big factor in a successful treatment is you! The more involved and diligent you are, the more efficient your treatment will be. For children, receiving interceptive or early treatment can also help provide a quicker overall treatment time.

Before beginning your orthodontic care, your doctor will discuss all of your options and provide an estimate for how long your full treatment may take.

METAL BRACES

These are the most commonly worn braces. The patient in the picture is wearing metal braces. These are made of special type of high grade stainless steel. At PROVIDENCE we also provide the option of nickel free braces since nickel allergy is very commonly found in people.

AESTHETIC BRACES

These are the most popular braces amongst young adults. Here the braces & the wires are tooth coloured, so they are hardly visible. If one is conscious of having their braces seen easily, then aesthetic braces are the solution for them. These braces are made of special grade ceramic and thewires are coated with tooth colour.
At PROVIDENCE, as per our philosophy, we recommend Self Ligating Ceramic braces. These are more aesthetic and comfortable for patients & deliver excellent results

SELF LIGATING BRACES

This is the new advancement in the regular braces. Here the braces have a special clip on every bracket. This clip is said to reduce the friction inside the braces. This can make the treatment more comfortable and faster. These braces also do not get a yellow stain (that ceramic braces get) by eating food, which contains turmeric (haldi) and other coloured substances.
We recommend DamonTM and smart clipTM  self ligating braces .

GROWTH MODIFICATION TREATMENT

Sometimes effective orthodontic treatment needs adjunctive accessories like Face Masks, Headgears, twin block, etc
These are required to be worn to improve the quality of result achieved as they help in modulating the growth in a more favourable direction.
Face masks and Headgears are removable and are worn 12-14 Hours a day over a period of 6-12 months and are proved to produce beautiful and desirable aesthetic facial changes.

Expansion screws help us to expand jaws in narrow arches allowing more space for alignment of teeth and are also known to improve breathing in indicated patients.

There are more adjunctive devices known as functional appliances which are used to facilitate proper growth modulation of jaws and are used in combination with fixed braces to achieve better results.

COLOURED BRACES

Metal braces require a band to be placed on every tooth. We can place a coloured band on the tooth to add colour to the braces.
The band are changed every visit. So we can have a new colour on the braces at every visit. Two colour combinations and multi-coloured braces are one of the most popular designs in braces.

ALIGNERS

Aligners are the best combination of comfort & aesthetics. Aligners are transparent removable trays that are made of clear acrylic. This is becoming increasingly popular for adults who would like to have a beautiful smile, but do not want to have braces.
A word of caution – these braces require careful planning and cannot be used for all cases. They work best only in the hands of an expert. These are the best option for non-resident patients or those who cannot visit PROVIDENCE centres every six weeks.

TM JOINT PAIN

Some individuals have pain around their jaw joint (in front of their ears), around the temple or even headaches and neck aches. This pain may be due to the teeth not meeting in the proper way or what is commonly known as a bad bite. First, we give these patients a plate (splint), which relives their pain. After this, we carry out a bite correction with the help of braces. The splint completely gets rid of the pain and the bite correction makes sure that the pain does not reoccur.

ORTHOGNATHIC SURGERIES
Orthognathic surgeries are surgeries performed on jaw bones ie maxilla or mandible to alter their shape size or position. These are done in conjunction with orthodontic or braces treatment to align the teeth along with the jaws.

Orthognathic or jaw surgery is required when maxilla and / or mandible is not in good proportion to each other or to cranial base. The cause of jaw disproportion may be heredity, trauma or certain environmental disturbances. When jaws are in disproportion, the teeth alignment is also affected. Therefore along with jaw surgery, braces treatment is also required to align the teeth.

INTERDISCIPLINARY TREATMENT
If you have been having missing or extracted teeth for a long time, the adjacent / opposing teeth tilt / overerupt into those spaces causing premature teeth contact, abnormal teeth wear, periodontal pockets, T M Joint disturbances etc. Orthodontic treatment can reverse this completely. With orthodontic treatment your natural teeth positions are restored / improved and just the right space is created for replacement of missing teeth.
Sometimes, if the treatment plan permits, the space of missing teeth is completely closed by moving adjacent teeth together with braces. Hence requiring no replacement of teeth

Peg shaped and malformed teeth cause functional as well as esthetic problems, orthodontic correction of their alignment followed by restorative treatment tremendously improves esthetic and functional result

Braces can be used to develop healthy sites for putting dental implants in case of atrophic ridges due to long standing extraction spaces.

Enhancing smile – Orthodontics naturally improves the smile esthetics. But in certain conditions like excessive teeth wear in front teeth, the teeth migrate causing irregular / unesthetic gingival margins. With braces teeth can be intruded / extruded to have proportionate and aligned gingival margins. Later the worn out portion of the tooth is built up with composites / laminates to complete the smile enhancement.
